MTP tackles servers and data centre energy consumption in the UK
30/08/2006MTP Product Manager Robin Murray and his team are assessing the impact of servers and data centres in the UK. The team is investigating possible policy solutions to mitigate the impact of an expected rise in consumption from servers and data centres due to predicted increase in global demand for data centre powered services including IT, financial, internet, video on demand (VoD), digital television, telecom and broadband services. Global focus is growing among the energy efficiency community on the energy performance of servers and data centres. MTP is in the process of engaging with policy makers and industry stakeholders to help gather information and build consensus among the community to support the development of integrated policies to ensure carbon emissions are minimised. MTP is also working with EU partners and the US EPA to harmonise global action.
