25/10/2006

The International Task Force for Sustainable Products  (ITFSP http://www.itfsp.org/) aims to

  • Deliver on commitments for more international co-operation.
  • Identify scope and priorities for action.
  • Promote effective Global Sustainable Product Networks.
  • Acting in partnership with governments and the expert community.
  • Connecting policy, resources and mechanisms.
  • Accelerating product innovation and market transformation.

Secretariat and technical services are provided through the Market Transformation Programme.

An objective is to map current activity and promote and support effective Global Sustainable Product Networks (GSPNs) in key sectors for more international co-operation connecting policy and resources.

The Home Entertainment GSPN encompasses existing and new communities of practice and currently focuses on three types of electronics product:

 - Televisions.

 - Set Top Boxes (STBs):

 - Digital Television Adapters (DTAs, also referred to as simple STBs).

 - Complex STBs.

The communities of practice are open networks of stakeholders including policy makers, consumer electronic experts, product manufactures and digital television service providers. The stakeholders meet and discuss efforts to harmonise and rationalise testing, labelling, and minimum energy standards for these products. The proposed structure for this network is available at http://www.mtprog.com/gspn.aspx

At the TC 100 Berlin Plenary meeting, Berlin, Germany 27-28 September 2006 - members of the home entertainments GSPN presented a new test methodology which can properly test the energy efficiency of all types of TV technology. It was agreed to incorporate this method into the revised version of the IEC standard for testing television equipment IEC 62087.
